Property Group Lend Lease yesterday unveiled a four-day exhibition of it’s plans to regenerate the Heygate Estate in Elephant & Castle, London SE1. The final concept is set to be submitted to Southwark Council in spring 2012.
The regeneration project includes 2,500 residential homes of varying sizes, 178,000sqft of retail, restaurants and office space, along with community, cultural and leisure facilities – all based around a centralised park. Southwark council are also aiming to upgrade the Northern Line Station and remove some of the subways around the Heygate Estate area.
Initial stages of the regeneration project began in December 2010 with the help of the local community who raised issues concerning the parkland, pedestrian, vehicular and cycle routes along with the proposed height of certain buildings.
It’s now up to Lend Lease to submit their final plan which will highlight the development and design parameters of the project. Once the property group have received feedback from
Southwark council and local residents, the development can get underway.
Once completed, this
regeneration scheme will add value to the area, thus making what is an already popular South-East London location an even more desirable place to rent serviced office space.
